Pink food galore

beetgoat

Sometimes I walk into the grocery store with a magnetic pull to any sort of random food. Apparently this one week it was beets and strawberries…talk about natural lipstick….

Anywho I found this awesome pre-made foccaccia-esque pizza dough and made beet and goat cheese pizza as well as strawberry and goat cheese pizza!!

Essentially, you just simmer some thinly sliced onions with butter for like 30 mins, spread some EVOO and minced garlic as your base, and add toppings.

For beets, I would recommend roasting them a day in advance because it takes FORREEVVERRR to roast them. Also, they are a MESS. like triplet toddler mess (I would assume…)

For strawberries, I HIGHLY recommend topping your pizza with some basil, basil-infused EVOO, or pesto. The herby pizza dough is enough to give it some good flavor, but pesto + strawberries is so good!

We’re going backwards…much to catch up on

So now I’m stealing from my twitter account….I keep taking these god awful pictures on my dinky phone, but what the heck, I’m sharing them loud and proud now.

I made this homemade pasta literally the night before I came to San Fran. Probably a good place to start? I think my mom wanted it to be a mother daughter distraction activity to draw her away from panicking that I left the east coast for three months.

Thanks to my wonderful aunt Jessie, I now have a fancy pasta-making machine!!!! This beaut came from williams-sonoma and let me tell you, it weighs as much as an anvil. The recipe is incredibly simple and just involved lots of folding and rolling and re-rolling out dough. I think it’s something like two cups of flour and three eggs?

You sort of form a volcano of flour and plop the eggs in the middle, gently whisking the eggs in bit by bit. We cut out pasta, threw it in some boiling water for 2-3 mins and added it to some fabulous white wine garlic clam sauce. A mama mia!

Wow, that’s an interesting way to put it. After freaking out that San Francisco could be a total flop and I would be one of those girls who ends up with roommates who make your life miserable, it turns out that the Lord is good and it works out sometimes. Run-on sentence…

From the second I got here, my roomies and I have shared our affinity for baking cookies in mass proportions, Grey’s Anatomy and other stereotypical college girl activities! I’ve been so blessed to have awesome people surrounding me in this foreign place, and this blog started because we want to keep up when we no longer live in the same apt. 😦

I’ m going to backtrack on these first few posts because I’ve got lots of food I want to share, but hello blog. Hello, Anne Marie, at the moment you’re the only one reading this 🙂
